Department for Cooperation and Cultural Action

The Department for Cooperation and Cultural Action (SCAC) of the Embassy of France to Ghana is coordinating the implementation of actions and programs of bilateral cooperation between France and Ghana in three areas of priority 2 "Support the modernization of the Ghanaian society and strengthen Francophonie"of the action plan of the embassy:

  • widen the field of partnerships with civil society, NGOs in particular and local authorities, with emphasis on the involvement of youth = carry out the second part of the PSF "accountability" and develop projects in the areas of governance / decentralization, human rights, health, gender, environment / climate change (including postCoP21), etc.
  • rely on Ghana’s participation in Francophonie, progress on the teaching of French = implementation of the PSF "Support for French language training initiatives" and support for the signing of a linguistic pact between t Ghana and OIF;
  • developing exchanges in the areas of academic cooperation and research= increasing student mobility and the number of partnerships between universities and Ghanaian and French institutes of research

The Accra SCAC to fulfill its mission relies on:

  • L’Institut Français du Ghana in the areas of higher education, research and scientific exchange, debate of ideas and the promotion of knowledge, education, cultural and artistic exchanges industries;
  • The Alliances Françaises network (Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Takoradi and Tema) in the areas of teaching French and culture;
  • experts from the French technical assistance and international voluntary service seconded to the Ghanaian institutions (MLGRD) and the Maisons Françaises (UG-Legon, KNUST);
  • The Lycée Français Jacques Prévert d’Accra
  • The Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD Bénin) in the fields of health and environment;

Department opening hours

  • Monday to Thursday from 7:45 am to 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm
  • Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m
