Accountability: signing ceremony for two selected projects

Two projects have been selected in the framework of the third and final call for proposals in social accountability, supported by the French project entitled “Strengthening the accountability of Ghana’s central and Local Government”. The contracts signing ceremony was held on the 27th of May 2016, at Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) office.

Overall, the 3 calls for proposals have selected 8 innovative initiatives that will be supported by France, with a target of 10 000 mobilized people in strengthening linkages between citizens, civil society and local government.

CDD-Ghana, implementing partner for the component aimed to strengthen ties between Government, civil society and citizens, signed the funding contracts with the two selected NGOs: Global Alliance for Development Foundation (GADef) and Agricultural Environmental Infrastructural Development Foundation (AGRIDEF). These two NGOs have been selected among 23 proposals and will receive a grant of 14000 euros, for a period of one year.

GADef submitted a project in collaboration with Asutifi District, in Brongo Ahafo Region. The project aims mainly at increasing the commitment of youth in decision making and for local development. 15 communities within this district are identified, including one third related to mining. One of the expected outcomes is to sustainably set a parliament of youth and a platform for dialogue between young people and this parliament, local and traditional authorities. Media like facebook, twitter, etc. will by used for this project.

AGRIDEF will implement a project in collaboration with Bia West District, in Western Region. The project aims at building capacities to citizens and traditional authorities in social accountability and in order to get involved in development process and local projects. Environmental and sanitation issues will be on heart of the project. One of the planned means is to sensibilize citizens to environment by planting trees, contributing to biodiversity preservation. 15 communities will be selected within Bia West district for this project.
